#12M15M Global Day of Action, 2pm Saturday 12th May 2012 @ The Spire, O’Connell Street

For the latest information about the event check out our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/events/259726920789889/

On the 15th of May 2011, millions of people started a process of social change, sending a clear message that we are not the property of politicians and bankers.

The political class and the economic powers behind them continue to ignore the message. They continue imposing poverty on the people and putting our lives at risk.

On the 12th of May, after a year of protest sweeping the globe, the ruling class digs in to maintain its power and wealth, we take back the streets and we demand:

1. Not a single euro more for bailing out banks. The bankers and speculators caused the crisis – make them pay for it.

2. Total transparency in the governance of the country, zero tolerance to corruption, and prosecution of those responsible for major economic crimes.

3. A society that guarantees the following: housing, work, culture, health care, free education, political participation and a fulfilled life. Our political and economic system places these things under attack.

4. Real Democracy NOW! Everyone’s voice, participation and welfare should be given equal importance in deciding how our society should be run.

On May 12th people from all over the world will take to the streets and squares. From America to Asia, from Africa to Europe, people are rising up to claim their rights and demand real democracy. Now it is time for all of us to join in a global non-violent protest.

It’s time for us to unite. It’s time for them to listen.

PROTEST IN SOLIDARITY WITH VALENCIA STUDENTS: AGAINST POLICE BRUTALITY

Who? Real Democracy Now! Ireland
What? Protest in Solidarity with the students in Valencia who where brutalized by police.
When? Saturday 25th February @ 3 pm
Where? Central Bank of Ireland, Dame Street, Dublin 2.
Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/292758804124913/#!/events/292758804124913/

On Tuesday a peaceful protest against budget cuts in education in Valencia, Spain ended in bloody police repression. Images conjured up memories of Franco’s brutal dictatorship. Squads of riot police violently assaulted a group of some 300 students (most of them minors) arresting at least 26 and leaving scores injured. The brutal repression of peaceful protesters by police forces is becoming an increasingly familiar scenario not only in Spain but in many other supposedly democratic countries in Europe. While markets dictate to governments and austerity is imposed driving people to mass unemployment and poverty, any attempt to voice dissent is met with violent repression by the state forces. While this may not yet be the case in Ireland the repression has been very visible in Greece and in Spain and has relevance in Ireland too as the voices of dissent gradually become louder.

We want to say that we stand in solidarity with the people of Valencia and that this type of police violent repression will in the end only further reinvigorate our resistance.

Join us in this solidarity protest. We are outraged and we will not tolerate any violence from the police forces against the civilian population.

We stand or fall together. There is strength in unity.

International mobilization day – Demo in solidarity with the people of Greece

INTERNATIONAL MOBILIZATION DAY: WE ARE ALL GREEKS! ΕΙΜΑΣΤΕ ΟΛΟΙ ΕΛΛΗΝΕΣ! SIAMO TUTTI GRECI! TODOS SOMOS GRIEGOS Y GRIEGAS!

Who? Real Democracy Now! Ireland
What? Demonstration in Solidarity with the Greek people
When? Saturday 18th February @1 pm
Where? Greek Embassy, 1 Upper Pembroke Street, Dublin
Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/253637944712060/

Greece, a small and peaceful nation in the south of Europe, has fallen prey to the international money traders. A non-elected government and its troika masters are ruining the country and the people are being driven to mass unemployment and poverty. Democracy has been abolished in the country in which it was born. Greece is on the brink of complete occupation, with lost sovereignty. Since the start of the crisis the Greek people have been portrayed as being lazy, wasteful and thieves. This is part of a concerted campaign of defamation by the international mainstream media, owned and controlled by the financial cartels, which aims to justify the fall of Greece.

We want to say ENOUGH! and stand in solidarity with the people of Greece who are rising up against the financial dictatorship. Before we know it Portugal will fall, with Ireland to follow.

Join us in this solidarity demonstration to show to our fellow Greeks, the people of Ireland and the Irish politicians that we the people care: we are outraged and do not want to be the next prey!
We stand or fall together. There is strength in unity.

#10Dec Global Day of Action

The success of the international ‘#Occupy’ movement has triggered an unprecedented momentum for global action. Both developed and developing countries around the world must unite in our struggle for real democracy and basic human rights as we are all subject to the same corrupt global system that favours greed over needs.

Our movement has been inspired by the hundreds of thousands of people who took to the streets across Spain on the 15th of May to call for a truly participative democracy, to oppose political corruption and reject the austerity being imposed on them. We also show solidarity with the Occupy Dame Street movement and all other pro-democracy movements that oppose the dictatorship of the financial markets and corporations. We believe the political class serve only the interests of the rich and powerful while ignoring the ordinary people. That is why we take to the streets to hold people’s assemblies, to create real democracy, where we can represent ourselves and the interests of all people and to assert our most fundamental rights.Rights which vested interests have tried to redefine as privileges while they accuse us of having a sense of entitlementent.

The 10th of December is a global day of action. People all over the world will take to the streets and the squares against the corporate dictatorship and political corruption We ask you to join us and march with Occupy Dame Street and help bring about real democracy now (assemble at 2pm at The Garden of Remembrance). United we can make our voices heard.

Real Democracy Now is a non-partisan movement.

Spectacle of Defiance and Hope

Real Democracy Now! will be joining and supporting the “Spectacle of Defiance and Hope”, a big protest event taking place in Dublin city centre from 12 to 6pm this Saturday December 3rd. The Spectacle is a grassroots alliance of community organisations from Dublin and beyond, which was formed in 2010 to challenge the austerity measures that the state is imposing on the community and voluntary sector and to draw attention to the growing inequalities and injustices that are taking place in this country. RDNI invite activist groups and individuals to take a look to the Spectacle’s guidelines (for example in relation to suggested ‘dress code’, or party/unions banners) and to get involved.

More information can be found on the Spectacle’s website

#15Oct International action for #globaldemocracy

Important Note: At this Tuesday’s assembly RDN invited some members of #OccupyDameStreet to our weekly assembly. We agreed to march on Saturday 15th October to Dame Street, and not Jervis Square.

On the 15th of October people from all over the world will take to the streets to express our outrage at the loss of our rights by the hand of big corporations and the political class. From Real Democracy Now! we invite you to participate in this peaceful action of international protest by joining us at the Garden of Remembrance on Saturday the 15th at 2pm. From there we will march towards Dame Street where we will have an open forum in which you can share your opinions and proposals for democracy, the financial system and the welfare state in Ireland.

Under the pressure of financial powers our leaders work for the benefit of a few, and ignore the social, human or ecological costs. The ruling classes in Ireland and Europe are stripping us of our right to a just and free society.

Take the streets on the 15th of October, with us at the Garden of Remembrance or, if that’s not possible with your own action in your local area. It is time they listened to us. United we will make our voices heard!

We believe it’s time to join forces and to create a network in which we are all working together for the benefit of everyone and to let the 15th of October mark a before and after in our history.

Also, as Real Democracy Now! is a nonpartisan movement we would like people to attend this protest as individuals and not to display any political party or trade union banners and literature.
